for what it is worth, it could have been worse
than to drop to your knees in grandmother's church
but you say you were framed, you don't know your name
you left your ID on a fast-moving train
for passion or pride you can't pick a side
the distance as wide as a cross-country drive
but you tried to act smart, you played from the heart
you painted your face like a tennessee star
and they might believe, like all other thieves
you'll have cash in your hand when you get up to leave
but you leant me your gown and all that i found
was a picture of you when your hair was still brown
this city has changed, the reservoir's drained
the streets where we walked have been torn and repaved
now you cough when you speak, you kiss on the cheek
you sing in your sleep like you learned it from me
the things that we've tried to say or survive
wait inside a hotel room on beverly drive
you could take them all back if you had the map
to guide you from here to each possible past

Fantastic album. Very reminiscent of 90s slowcore with an even more beautiful and dark edge. It's hard to find music like this nowadays but I'm very pleased to have found it. Jesse Mullen

this track brutalizes me emotionally and forces access to things I spend huge amounts of energy burying... its like fuckin ayahuasca... but I love it. Bob Furtado
